Cholecystitis

Inflammation of the gallbladder wall due to Cholestasis, usually as a result of cholelithiasis.

Unresolved cholecystitis can lead to peritonitis, sepsis, and death, following these steps:

1. Inflammation of the gallbladder wall.
2. Distention of the gallbladder.
3. Ischemia to gallbladder tissues.
4. Necrosis of the gallbladder wall.
5. Rupture of the gallbladder wall, spilling contents into the peritoneum.
6. Peritonitis.
